Pet Hosting

Growing up, I was always afraid of animals. I had no real understanding of what unconditional love felt like, largely due to the conditioning I received from family and society—where having pets in the house wasn’t encouraged or even considered.

But life had other plans. I married Naveen, a lifelong animal lover who grew up surrounded by pets. After our marriage, I slowly began to experience what it felt like to be around animals. Little by little, I learned, unlearned, and opened my heart.

And then, in 2020, we made a life-changing decision—we brought home our beautiful boy, Archie. From that moment on, everything shifted. Archie opened my eyes to a kind of love I had never known. His innocence and joy reminded me of how pure the world can be when seen through the eyes of a dog. That experience completely transformed me.

With this new perspective, I began dreaming of becoming a foster carer for animals in need. However, due to our work commitments, we knew we couldn’t offer the full-time care that fostering often requires. That’s when Naveen, ever the animal lover, took the initiative to register as a pet host with MadPaws—and in 2023, our pet hosting journey officially began.

Pet hosting is a service where we welcome and care for other people's pets in our home, providing them with a safe, loving, and comfortable environment while their families are away.. Pet hosting can be an incredibly fulfilling experience, especially for animal lovers. It offers the joy of companionship, the chance to meet different animals with unique personalities, and can even serve as a source of extra income. Hosting also supports pet parents who need a trusted space for their furry friends. However, it does come with its share of challenges—such as adjusting your routine, managing unpredictable pet behaviour, and the emotional difficulty of saying goodbye after forming a bond. It also requires time, patience, and responsibility, which can sometimes be tough to balance with other commitments. Pets often experience emotional distress when placed in a new environment—surrounded by unfamiliar people, scents, and routines, all without the comfort of their family. The adjustment can be tough; many pets may whine, withdraw, or appear fearful at first. That’s why pet hosting requires a great deal of patience, compassion, and consistency. It’s about gently earning their trust, offering comfort, and slowly helping them feel safe enough to play, relax, and be themselves again. Despite the challenges, pet hosting has been deeply rewarding for us because we see the world through the eyes of these voiceless beings. Through Archie, we have also found our purpose of life - to be there for animals in need.
